Scottish National Age Group Championships 2018 News Report
Our Cumbernauld Swimmers recently returned from testing their mettle against the best in the country while competing in the Scottish National Age Group Championships. Cumbernauld Swimming Club swimmers competed as an amalgamated North Lanarkshire Team in the event, held over 5 full days with older swimmers competing in the morning sessions, younger swimmers in the afternoon, and finalists returning for final events each evening.
Craig Greenock enjoyed a fantastic week, earning himself a Silver medal in the Age 17-18 100 metre Butterfly, while bagging Bronze medals in both the 50 metre and 200 metre Butterfly events, establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with in Butterfly events! Teammate Michael Flynn powered his way to Silver in the Age 15 1500 metre Freestyle final, while also finishing 4th in the 800 metre Freestyle and 5th in the 400 metre Freestyle. Kerr Martin earned a place in 4 finals with some great swims, best among them being a 4th in the 200 metre Individual Medley and a 5th in the 200 metre Backcrawl. 14 year old Cameron Creaney also made it to 2 finals with a 4th in the 200 metre Butterfly and 5th in the 50 metre Butterfly. Murray Kennedy, Seth Knox and Euan McDonald also booked their places in finals and swam well while earning points toward the overall team standings.
Elle O’Reilly earned a spot in 2 finals while swimming in the girls Age 15 category and teammate Georgia Knox climbed out of her sick bed to earn a swim in a final event, each contributing to the overall team success. When the dust had settled, Team NL earned itself a 5th place finish overall and a place in the National Team Championships held in September.
Well Done Swimmers!!!
